LAST YEAR, i fondly recall our intimate christmas day. we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Edward's then enjoyed the rest of the day at Pigeon Beach. ché was still timid of the water and willow had to be propped up on the sand so she could watch her brother play.
THIS YEAR was much more eventful, but equally excellent.
as a family, we have decided to keep the gifting at an absolute minimum. we've decided that bribes for good behaviour for young children seems disingenuous & sets a dangerous precedent. collecting material goods is avoided (after two big moves). teaching ché & willow that christmas is about the booty is verboten.
our tree was a beautiful tropical fir tree which never left its pot. ché & mommy decorated it lovingly with homemade ornaments and one set of lights. [after christmas it went onto the porch where a small bird promptly built a nest into it].
this christmas wasn't just our nuclear family. a good friend: richard joined us for the holidays. christmas isn't his bag, but getting away from the great white north definitely is.
island friends alison & colin mentioned a christmas celebration taking place at nelson's dockyard in english harbour. so we figured we would fit it into our december 25th activities. once we had enjoyed a wonderful brunch at the Edwards', we journeyed down to nelson's dockyard to check out the activities. when we arrived, things were just getting going. it was a champagne christmas fundraiser with proceeds from champagne sales going to a local charity. a dinghy full of bottles of champagne in ice was surrounded by a tent with a band, a bar & a food concession. so we were set up.
let me describe nelson's dockyard so you can picture it...
nelson's dockyard is a restored naval yard with buildings, boats & plenty of history. initially built in 1725 & restored in 1951, this site is a fantastic collection of vintage structures & beautiful modern-day sailboats. there is no shortage of things to see and explore for a little boys & big ones...
