from lois... so, what did I learn from my 1st 2 weeks in antigua?
1. fresh milk is like, totally alien to most small grocers - "ya wan powdered? tin?" 2. you need to fill out an application to call long distance from your land line 3. there is more pothole than road in certain places 4. lizards are $15 in toronto, but free free free in our house! 5. rain water is delicious, soft and, unlike in toronto, not a plentiful source of acid 6. amazingly enough, you can be in a tropical paradise for 2 weeks and never go to the beach 7. food is pricey, shoes and clothes are cheap as hell 8. che has a brother! st. clair rocks! 9. i see rolling hills out my bathroom window. 10. few street signs, even fewer stop signs and NO one way signs make driving on the left hand side in a city you don't know very well, quite, hmm, interesting 11. mrs. lewis at the royal bank actually welcomes us each time...by name. wow.
it's antigua and barbuda's 25th year of independence from britain, so the whole island is celebrating. madras (a local plaid-like fabric) http://www.cdislands.com/photos_antigua/ant5/xan10823.jpg - is everywhere and the expats are returning home to party. life is good. - signed lois

house hunting...
it is slowly being reinitiated since lois has arrived on the scene, but t'is a difficult chore. its a hot market down here & everyone wants more for their place these days.
we looked at a couple more homes, but with what we are seeing or what we are being told we would need to spend, we are in place for a while.
running...
i am very pleased to say i have been sticking with it & am - without a doubt - in the best shape of my life. until my subaru began measuring the distances of my routes, i was mistakenly logging miles as km's. much to my surprise, i have been running between 8-13 miles (not km's) every other day.
here are some cool little facts:
FACT 1: my new fave beverage is soursop juice. the fruit is good. the juice is amazing.
FACT 2: rainy season in antigua is sept, oct. it comes down in torrents that must be seen.
FACT 3: barber is being weaned from the bottle at approx 8 weeks; his horns are coming in nicely.
FACT 4: when running in antiguan neighbourhoods, the best dog repellant: a fist-sized rock. i'm 2/5.
FACT 5: i don't think i have heard 3 cuss words since i got here (excluding from my mouth).
FACT 6: it takes 2 weeks to get a bank card, since it is made in barbados.
FACT 7: all public & private school kids wear uniforms & all look very good.
